I don’t think we’ve ever seen him this terrified. In all the five seasons of the dragon prince, we have never once seen him with this expression, not even when king Harrow died, not even when ezran fell into the ice water, never. And here, you can see so so clearly just how afraid he is, how much he fears losing Rayla, because in his mind, he just got her back after losing her two years ago, and right now he might just lose her again, and he is terrified of that. He doesn’t want to lose her ever again, because that’s just how much he loves her.

He is so fucking angry.
Because that guy that he’s looking at is hurting the person he loves most, and fuck everything, Callum is not letting him walk away from it unharmed, without giving him the slightest taste of what he deserves, because he is not losing Rayla, not again, after everything they’ve been through.
And Callum, who is usually such a peaceful and gentle person, who would never resort to violence unless necessary, and who we’ve only seen punch something once, and even then it was a mindless corrupted animal, punches Finnegrin square in the face, even with an entire gigantic hunk of wood holding him back, because fuck you, finnegrin, you hurt Rayla, and you don’t deserve any mercy.
We have never, from season 1 to season 5, seen any of the characters in this show so angry, so furious, and yet here we are, seeing one of the most gentle and kind characters wear that expression.
In other words, the expressions in this show are absolutely amazing and phenomenal, and it’s captured so so well.
I feel so bad for callum and his reaction to using dark magic again. You can see how disappointed he is in himself, but more importantly you can tell he’s worried about what rayla would think.
All he can probably think about is how when he used dark magic the first time Rayla got really upset with him. But he was unconscious and doesn’t know she confessed her feelings then.
Rayla wouldn’t put him down and leave him for using dark magic she would more than likely be upset at herself for putting him in a situation where he had to.
My heart really goes out to Callum because he already sees himself as a monster, and potential villain after Aaravos possessed him. He’s so silly sometimes it’s easy to forget he has a lot of deep and serious turmoil happening inside.
For example there are constant narrative comparisons happening between him and Viren and even Aaravos.
He’s so scared of becoming evil despite being so good and kind. I just love Callum and Rayla so much. They’re perfect for each other. He just needs to talk to her.

just something about Nico messing with Will like that makes me laugh and smile so hard. hes already like my favorite character, but him showing some other emotion besides emo makes me happy for the little boy
Nico canonically being the least dense and the most sensible when it comes to relationships and romance among the big three kids lives rent free in my mind
You know, I really hope that after V9 they ease up on Jaune and stop using him as the show’s punching bag. Like, he has more than taken his licks. When he gets back to Remnant (and he is getting back) let him shine. Back in the prime of his youth at 19-20 but with about 20 extra years of experience and a newly reforged sword. And his warrior’s wolf tail, of course.
He’s effectively a blade master after engaging the Jabberwalker for so many years, so give him moments to show off like soloing a group of Grimm, or dueling Tyrian one on one and matching him blow for blow. Perhaps not beating him since even Qrow couldn’t do that, but he’s on a comparable level and can keep the mad man occupied until back up arrives.
And of course, have him duel Cinder and take her completely off guard with his prowess since she has no idea he’s improved by leagues since their last fight. Have him actually put her on the back foot and beat her down until she uses the maiden powers.
Man’s been through hell and back. He’s earned the right to just kick ass and take names for a bit
